Peter Levin’s Rethinking Markets

Maligne Lake

Academic Identity

I am assistant professor of Sociology at Barnard College. My book (and my dissertation research) is a comparative study of technology and futures trading, an ethnography of open outcry and electronic traders. My current research is on how art specialists price cultural commodities, particularly how categories and commensuration work in the secondary/resale fine arts market. I teach courses in economic sociology, organizations, and gender.

Professional Identity

I occasionally consult, focusing on organizational change, the future of technology and financial markets, and environmental markets. I do strategic assessments of markets, technology and organizational design, with qualitative and quantitative components. If you are interested, please email me.

Personal Identity

I grew up outside Chicago, and went to school(s) at Wesleyan University, USC, and Northwestern University. I currently live in New York, with a partner who is a marketing manager for an educational nonprofit. I love movies, like to cook, and I can do a mean lindy swing out. I am INTP.

New template

Filed under: Ramble — Peter @ 8:03 pm

there’s going to be some ugliness as I work out the kinks in this new template of mine, but it’s pretty much designed as a combination of existing pastiche and original sentiment, so be nice.

oooh! what pretty blue trees you have.

I like the elegance. Very nice change.

    I like it.

    OOOh!!! Centered!

Ask and ye shall be answered…anything else? Suggestions for the data garden?

  6. Andrew Says:

I like the blue and the trees - very elegant, as Brayden says. But have you tried it without the orange rounded rectangle backgrounds? They seem a bit unnecessary, but maybe you need them to tie the text together into visually coherent units.

  7. Peter Says:

Better without the rectangles? Or with?

  8. Andrew Says:

Personally, I think better without, but used when block-quoting - i.e., what you now have up instead of before. But that’s just my taste, preference, etc.

Yes, I concur with Answer on this point. I will go to the Data Garden during my next work break. AND, I have asked you to respond to the muxtape. It is your job to make me feel less humiliated about my first try, m’kay?

  10. Peter Says:

I was thrown by the initial Velvet Underground, to be straight with you. But I loved Band of Bees and I’d never heard the Be Good Tanyas despite the fact that I wore out the bits of my Jolie Holland track of Littlest Birds from Catalpa - I liked the BGT’s version a bit better even.

    And the A.P.O. is inspired.

My muxtape attempt portends to be sad by comparison.

Ooooh. YOUR muxtape? Awesome. Can’t wait.
